Memento

The reason the film memento is a thriller is because of the questions that the film makes you ask and the technique of showing the end before the beginning. By showing the outcome of the film straight away the audience is not expecting to be confused about the end, but more interested in how certain aspects come about "Why does he kill him? Who is this man?". By making the audience have to discover facts about the characters and storyline during the film makes this a thriller as a good thriller needs to grab the audiences attention straight away and not let them stop questioning until the end finally tells them what they need to know.

Characters

Darren: Darren is going to be a high class character who works for a large expensive corporate company. He will be walking around acting quite snobby (walking with his corporate umbrella.) He is going to be roughly 22, he's a of a white ethnicity and is quite short for a male. This is comical as he is expected to be more dominant than Emily and so it is funny to see him as less powerful and shorter.

Emily: Emily is going to be a ditsy, crazy character. She is going to be stressed out and act quite immaturely and unorganised. She is about 20, white and of an average height. She has long blonde hair that looks sort of scruffy so that she looks like she doesn't care about her appearance too much. Emily is quite tall for a woman and is taller then Darren. This creates humour as she is more dominant than Darren.

Sounds

Song Title: Tea and Crumpets
Artist: Nick Leach

We choose this song as it is upbeat and fun. The genre is brit-rock as we wanted to relate the song back to the country.

This alarm clock sound is going to be used for the woman's alarm clock which signatures the beginning of the opening sequence.

This is an alarm clock sound which is going to be used for Darren's alarm clock at the beginning which is a corporate sounding alarm clock.

Casting

Darren: we chose Darren because he is a keen actor and looks the eldest out of our group, so fits the role of the character which means we keep the suspension of belief. Also he felt more comfortable playing the role as there are some awkward shots and he knows the other actress, which will make the opening sequence more believable.

Emily: We chose Emily as the actor because she best suited the female role. She was the oldest looking in the group and she has done acting in the class before. She also knows Darren so the awkward scenes within the film will not be as hard to film.

Props,Costume and Locations

Props:
Two separate alarm clocks. The man's one will be an alarm on the phone which will show his high-tech possessions and show he has a lot of money. Also shows how he has no need for a proper alarm clock as he is efficient. The woman's alarm clock will be a simpler one to represent her care free personality. The alarms represent their similarity's and differences straight away. The coffee cup is important as it will be part of the comic effect as it gets spilt on the woman when the two characters bump into each other.

The address book is the most important prop as it is what sets up questions in the audiences mind like, how will he find her again to give it back, when will they see each other again etc.

Costume:

The man will be wearing semi-smart clothes as it will reveal that he is a hard worker and quite well off. The woman will be wearing casual clothes as it reflects her care-free personality.

Location:

Whilst the titles are coming up it will be filmed in the woman and the mans' separate houses as this will reflect their personalities and reveal stuff about them to the audience. When they meet each other it will be in a nearby park to the bus stop she needs to get to, this is so the comedy side of the film is set up, the woman will be running for a bus and then bumps into the man.

Synopsis

Darren and Emily come from different backgrounds and have completely different personalities; Darren has a top job and owns his own company and thinks very highly of himself whereas Emily is easy going and isn't tied down to any particular job. They are two people who wouldn't meet but destiny got the better of them and their lives clashed when they knocked into each other on their way to work. After an embarrassing recovery of their knock Darren takes a shine to Emily but he is too 'upper class' for her liking and she dismisses him and they both set off on their way but Darren realises she forgot her address book and before he can call her back to give it to her she's gone. The film shows Darren searching through some unusual contacts of Emily's found in her address book, throughout his search he learns a lot about Emily and decides he is going to win her over. Will he find her? Will they get together?
