Titles and Title font: The title font is very bold and stands out against the Shadow of the man limping behind the titles. This could emphasise that the film is all about the legal term of double indemnity and so this is something you need to constantly remember. This also adds to the tension as this tells us a horrible death will occur for this act to take place
Setting: Set in the middle of a busy American city. This brings the action to life as the things happening on screen could be happening in real life and around where the audience live. Also there is a typical American skyscraper where the main character works, which could mimic absolutely any skyscraper in America, making the action more intense as this could be happening to someone somewhere in real life.
Character: We see a man driving through the city quite recklessly and ask ourselves why he is so determined to get where he is going so fast. The man we see is shown in shadows and which seems strange because he is the main character yet we hardly see his face. The audience is intrigued and wants to find out who this man is, also the fact that he had been shot makes us want to know why he got into this predicament. You get mixed impressions as to if he is trying to get away from somebody or is trying to get quickly to somebody somewhere.
Props: The car we see at the beginning makes the audience understand an urgency for the main character to get to where he is going. We also question why he would be driving at all after we see that he has been shot and why he has gone to his work rather then to a hospital.
Costume: the man is wearing a long coat and a hat which hides his face from us for the majority of the opening, making us question why he is covering himself up so much. Before we find out he has been shot we ask if he is hiding from anyone, but after we ask if he is running away from someone who wants to hurt him.
Genre: We can tell this film is a thriller because it leaves the audience asking questions straight away instead of making us aware of the situation. It throws us in half way through the film and without us not knowing how things have worked out before this moment. Doing this makes us unaware of how the characters came to be in the situation he is in and ponders more questions.
Story: The story is to do with the title, the legal system which gives extra money to relatives of people who die horrible deaths. We do not know what is going to happen but we can expect it to involve the character we see in the opening and this legal system. We ask if he has killed someone to get money or if he has tried to stop someone else doing this.
