Title and Title font: The font of the title is a very plain text. This is a commonly used concept in thriller genre films as it gives nothing away about what the movie is going to include. The fact that the title is a yellow and black design also shows that danger will occur as these two colours represent death and/or danger i.e bees.Setting: The setting for this scene is a dark and deserted moor with only a car on it that we can clearly see. This tells the audience nothing about what has happened or will occur here, also the extreme long shot makes things hard to clearly see, so having the audience work it out themselves.
Characters: We are shown three characters in the opening. the two girls are shown walking away from the car where they have left the man dying. The two girls are not talking, building suspense as we don't understand why they did what they did. The positioning also tell us a lot about the two as the girl nearest us is shown larger and thus more important than the one who is further away. This shows her as more dominant and more powerful than the other, which would make the audience surmise that maybe she is the instigator.
Costume: The girl on the left has quite a dark and Gothic costume on, which could be to make us understand her mindset of being someone who enjoys causing pain to others. the fact she has her arms covered with lace makes her seem mysterious as she is covering herself up, to show how she doesn't want to be seen. the directors choose to have her wear this as she needed to be shown as dark so she would be associated with the crime she has committed.
Props: the knife is a very important prop in this scene as it makes the audience ask a lot of questions. "why did they attack the man? Was this premeditated? Who are these girls?" by making us ask questions the film is hooking us into the action and making us want to see more of what is happening, and seeing the whole movie.
Story: from what the opening shows us, the two girls have killed the man and are now escaping. We learn different things about the man by the objects we are shown; a drivers licence which tells his name and a keyring which shows he has a family. This makes us feel intrigued as we want to know why the man was killed . We believe the pair were set on killing this man prior to what we have seen but this raises questions still as we do not know if it was the man who originally was the person with the knife and whether it was his intention to attack the girls.
Genre: We know this is a thriller as we are shown very little, but what we are shown is surprising and strange. We want to see the movie to have our questions answered rather then see blood and gore (like a horror movie) or a romance. Only small clues are given at the beginning which allows the audience to try and piece together the cause of the tragedy whether rightly or wrongly as as the thriller progresses more clues (even red herrings) are then presented for the audience to work out a conclusion.
Remember, Wallander is a TV programme, not a film, so the conventions are slightly different.
